WAITING FOR THE CREVICES IN MY HAND TO BE CLEANED
Eternally Swaying Through This Forest
I sway through this forest that walks in the steps of many men, many women, much older than you and I. You see the footsteps we share, in the same prints we attempt to lay our bodies. I say, “I would live an old life, of many years, with many steps, and many bodies, yet I don’t believe I could find you again,” as I wipe the mud off the tops of my torn and twisted docs. There you stand, I can see the calluses on your feet, and the indent in your fingers where they’ve met mine for many many years. “I’ve lived an old and weary life, with many steps, across many years, and many bodies,” you say, as you take the sleeves of your sweater and clean the crevices of our hands.
“It has been many years, but for you this is just the beginning, and for me, I’ve grown old and in love with this beautiful life of ours,” you say as we lay our bodies down in the prints of this forest, and I say “I’ll grow old with you again” while you close your eyes sinking into the rich dark earth. I start to think you’ve known me far longer than I’ve known you, yet we are both to start anew.
